Mopsick Tax Law, LLP, is pleased to announce that Steven Mopsick is teaming up with Tax Media Network, Inc. in scheduling a unique educational program.  The program is scheduled to be held in Tel Aviv, Israel on November 18 and 19, 2015 at the new Tel Aviv Convention Center.  It is anticipated that similar programs will be held at other international locations in the future.

Registration material will be forthcoming in the summer.  The programs can be attended in the live venue, through webcasts, and recordings will also be available for education.  The programs are being held in conjunction with professional firm sponsors and CPE providers worldwide.

Federal Tax Practice and Procedure: 90 Years of Tax Wisdom

2-day CPE seminar for tax professionals engaged in FBAR, Offshore Voluntary Disclosures, and other international matters, as well as CPA’s, corporate staff, and nonprofits. 

This 2-day NASBA/ CPE seminar covers a number of topics that are both timely and challenging. Stuart Sobel and Steven Mopsick will share their unique expertise in working with the IRS. They will cover current law, recent court cases, and the full range of FBAR and Voluntary Disclosure issues for tax practitioners engaged in advising clients on this new IRS focus areas. Between them, Stu and Steve have 90 years of tax experience and wisdom to share. They both held high-level positions with a very complex and sometimes perplexing organization, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

Stu started in the examination function as an Internal Revenue agent and received promotions to high-level positions including Chief Review Staff, Returns Program Manager, and Chief Examination Branch. He also served the agency in other capacities. Stu was an expert witness who represented the IRS in court cases that dealt with unreported income, employment tax, and other technical issues; and he was co-author of the IRS’s first handbook on tax return selection and the IRS examination standards.


During his career with the IRS, Steve served as a tax law specialist preparing private letter rulings on complex corporate mergers and liquidations in both the domestic and foreign areas. He served as an IRS Tax Court trial attorney who was responsible for cases that dealt with a broad range of issues including fraud and complex business transactions. He also served as the Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief Counsel in Washington, D.C. In the second half of his thirty year career with the IRS, Steve opened and served as IRS District Counsel for the newly-formed Sacramento, CA office, where he managed attorneys who were responsible for the litigation or settlement of a multi-million dollar inventory of cases before the United States Tax Court.


Upon the completion of their extensive IRS careers, both Stu and Steve have served the private sector.


Stu has served clients for 18 years in the specialized tax consulting areas of tax planning, tax controversy, and nonprofit formation. He served as a member of the adjunct faculty of Indiana University, was the host of a nationally syndicated radio talk show, and authored four books on taxation. He has trained more than 25,000 accounting and tax professionals worldwide. His firm, Tax Media Network, Inc., has a state-of-the-art recording studio that produces courses for CPE providers around the world.


Steve has been in private tax practice for 13 years in Sacramento, CA. His practice focuses in part, on offshore and FBAR compliance matters. He has assisted clients on a multitude of Offshore Voluntary Disclosures since the various IRS programs were announced in 2009. The remainder of his practice focuses on complex IRS examinations, Tax Court litigation, and large dollar IRS collection cases. He is a prolific writer whose writings have covered a myriad of challenging tax issues and have been published in leading professional journals.
